Chapters 1-9 describe the building of the temple during Solomon's reign. Chapters 10-36 follow the history of the southern kingdom of Judah to the final destruction of Jerusalem and the people being taken captive to Babylon.

This book, like 1st Chronicles, shows that the people's relationship to God was most important. When the author wrote about the kings he measured them on the basis of their faithfulness to God. The reigns of evil kings are reported by the author quickly, while the reigns of good kings are described in more detail.

Outline
