Elihu Speaks: Part 2
Job 35 -- 37
Elihu continues to present his case for the sovereignty of God. The problem as he sees it is that men attempt to live lives apart from this obvious fact.
Ever since Eve shared the fruit with Adam, mankind has known the difference between righteousness and evil. However, there is a constant attempt to redefine the terms. Earlier testimony in this "courtroom drama" has demonstrated that the rules have not changed. Men in their hearts know right from wrong.
However, mankind holds tenaciously to its right to do what it wants, in spite of what God has said to the contrary. When they do, though, they hide motives and change rules along the way to appear good to their fellow men.
Generally speaking, hypocrites do not fair well in this life, for they are not as smart as they think they are. Their own decisions bring bad results, people catch on to their tricks and react adversely, and sometimes God acts directly against them!
Truly it is as Elihu indicates: "the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath."[1] What else should they expect? Knowing their own hearts that God sees through their ruse, and hoping against hope that God does not care, the live on merrily.
